American Chemical Society – Board of Directors

As a result of my many years of leadership and service within the ACS, I was honored in the fall of 2015 to be asked to run for the ACS Board of Directors-District II in 2016. My service on the ACS Board spanned two terms and six years (2017-2022). During that time, I served on five Board Committees (PA-PR; Strategic Planning, PMR, B&F, NAAB), had four special assignments (Corporation Associates, Strategic Planning Process Improvement, DIR Strategy Working Group, PMR Industry Member Task Force). My work leading special teams resulted in re-engineering of the ACS Strategic Planning Process, the adoption of the new DEIR Core Value and ACS DEIR Goal, and the creation of the Industry Advisory Board. It was highly rewarding to lead these Board efforts, and to produce improvements across the Society.  I’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to  make more contributions to the Society as ACS President.

Other aspects of Board service included participation in four Board Meetings/year, National Meetings, Regional Meetings, talks and invited presentations at ACS events. In all these settings, there was significant learning about the technical, operational, and business aspects of the ACS, as well as the opportunity to work across many committees, divisions, sections and projects. This gave me a significantly deep understanding about how the ACS works and allowed me to build many relationships with leaders across the ACS organization.
