Eli Lilly and Company is a pharmaceutical company that was founded in Indianapolis, Indiana–the same year that the ACS was founded, 1876. The company’s mission, vision and core values have sustained the company to excel at developing breakthrough, life-saving medicines, including Insulin, Penicillin, Keflex, Recombinant Human Insulin, Ceclor, Prozac, Zyprexa, Alimta (and more than 6 other important oncology medicines) and the recently mega-brands of Mounjaro and Zepbound.

My career at Lilly started in the Process Chemistry Research laboratories and progressed to global R&D management roles including global R&D operations for Prozac, Xigris, the CMC component of Lilly Research Labs and a pan-Development strategic sourcing and capacity management. Not only was this an incredible real-time education in pharmaceutical development and medical research, but also highly focused on the best practices for people and business management.

Lilly was where I learned the true power of integrated, interdisciplinary scientific innovation, spanning from discovery through lab development, clinical development and commercial (marketing and sales) development. Extraordinary accomplishments can be achieved when these interdisciplinary teams perform at their highest levels.

Lilly was also completely committed to supporting their chemistry professionals in the ACS. Every step along the way of my ACS career was supported by R&D management within Lilly. This was an incredible opportunity for both Local and National ACS organizations.
